A historic location for modern art

Open to the public since 2006, Anciens Abattoirs (Old Slaughterhouse) hosts events and temporary exhibitions primarily featuring modern art.

The main building – la Grande Halle – sits on a single storey, 70 metres long by 10 metres wide. The two other sections – l'Etable (the stable) and le Frigo (the cold room) – are used respectively by the World Craft Council Belgique Francophone, which is devoted to applied arts, and Transcultures, which works in the area of digital arts.

Since 2006, WCC-BF (World Crafts Council – Belgique Francophone) has been based in l'Etable at Anciens Abattoirs in Mons. It is the Walloon and Brussels representation of the World Crafts Council. WCC-BF promotes applied arts, as well as supporting and assisting artists and artisans.

Lectures, master classes, demonstrations of special techniques and legal consultations are regularly held here. But the most visible activity carried out by WCC-BF is in setting up exhibitions, often featuring the work of breakthrough young talent.
