Nicolas Vadot, cartoonist for the Belgian press, curator of the exhibition and Vice-President of Cartooning for Peace:  "At a time when the European Union – that peaceful construction, unique in the history of mankind – is called upon to welcome refugees fleeing poverty, barbarity and war, while it is in the midst of an identity crisis itself, 100 cartoons will try to outline a dozen major issues that are troubling the old continent."

In response to the many crises currently faced by Europe, cartoons are powerful tools to encourage debate and promote tolerance. The exhibition, containing around 100 topical cartoons, invites young and old alike to think about Europe's identity crisis.

Organised into 10 chapters, it tackles issues as varied as the worrying rise of extremism, the migrant crisis, the fallout from the financial crisis, the resurgence of populism and the growth of nationalism.

Mons Memorial Museum and Cartooning for Peace offer humorous, ironic or emotional takes on our society, as depicted by 52 cartoonists from 29 European countries and from around the world, including: Kroll, Vadot, Plantu, etc.
