On April 2, 1950, in order to plan and execute NATO military operations, it was decided to found SHAPE, the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Powers in Europe. Initially located in the Hotel Astoria in Paris in 1950, its new headquarters will then be moved to Rocquencourt and operational from April 2, 1951.
Following the withdrawal of France from NATO, its headquarters will finally be established in Mons in 1967. Even today, SHAPE makes the history of Mons with more than 50 years of international military presence in our commune.
This exhibition traces the 70 years of life of SHAPE on the Rocquencourt base, but especially on that of Mons. Discover unique collector's items and the role of SHAPE from its inception to today. You will also find there the testimonies of various soldiers temporarily present in Mons.

An exhibition produced in partnership with SHAPE.
